Teresa Scanlan Named Miss America

Watch out, Julian Assange. Teresa Scanlan of Nebraska took the Miss America crown in Las Vegas last night, and she’s no fan of WikiLeaks. “It was actually based on espionage, and when it comes to the security of our nation, we have to focus on security first and then people's right to know,” said Scanlan. At 17, Scanlan is the youngest Miss America since age limits were instituted in 1938. She gets a $50,000 scholarship, which she says she’ll put toward college and law school, the first steps to becoming a prosecutor, judge, or politician. "At this point, attorneys and politicians are looked down on and have terrible reputations for being greedy and power hungry and I really think it's important for people who have their heart and mind in the right place get into those powerful positions," said Scanlan.
